Pilates Retreats
Give yourself an opportunity to break out of established
patterns and refresh yourself with an inspiring experience
that can change the way you see yourself, your work, your purpose.
It’s a time to explore creative ideas with thoughtful people
in a nourishing environment. Add to that pilates in the morning
and evening with relaxation/ meditation and to top it all –
massages and healthy Mediterranean cooking.
Sarah's Pilates retreats have recently been included alongside other
retreats all over the world in the book written by Caroline Sylge,
entitled Body and Soul Escapes. The book can be found on Amazon.
February 2009 Country Living Magazine will have a full feature on
Sarah's retreat at Es-Castell in Majorca. Sarah has also been featured
in various press around the world. In 2008, Sarah was on BBC Radio
5 talking about Pilates and Gordon Brown's connection to Pilates.
IS A PILATES RETREAT/HOLIDAY FOR YOU?
Yes.. probably. If you want to learn pilates for the first time,
and if you've practised for years too! I modify for those who need
it and always start with the basics.
WHAT SORT OF PERSON GOES ON THE HOLIDAY?
If I'm honest.. mainly women BUT we welcome men too and couples
have always been very comfortable. It usually is a mixture, and
the beauty of a small group is that everyone tends to get on really
well.

to clients with muscular skeletal/ back problems where the development
of core stability through Pilates can be aided by remedial massage.

Es-Castell
I am very excited to be able to offer you this wonderful hotel as
one of my retreat holidays for pilates again this year. Every time we visit Es-Castell
we are treated like Kings and Queens. Every attention to detail
has been considered by our host and hostess James and Paola.
Es-Castell has been voted one of the 10 most prettiest hotels in
Majorca. Here, the silence is only broken by the hum of cicasas
during the day and the far-away tinkling of sheep bells at night.

Testimonials
I just want to say 'thanks' again for such a good break. It all
worked really well - obviously the pilates was the main attraction
for me and your teaching was excellent and has given me much to
think about; however, the whole package, i.e hotel, company, structure
etc, made the whole experience extremely enjoyable.
I'm missing it today.
Kathryn
Everything about my Pilates Retreat in Majorca
was perfect and exceeded expectation. Sarah is a stickler for Pilates
technique, which has really helped to focus me in my large class
back home. In Es-Castell, Sarah has chosen a beautiful hotel with
a stunning location and great food. This, along with Sarah's fun
Pilates style and relaxed self, left me feeling totally chilled
out.

From the peaceful, green landscaped grounds to
the cinematic views from the house, Miller Howe has been designed
very much with the outdoors in mind. Thanks to the privileged location
you can look out over the lake and fells whether you are sitting
on the terrace, relaxing in the lounge or enjoying a candle lit
dinner in the restaurant.
Individually designed and beautifully furnished - each of our 15
bedrooms is named after a Lakeland beauty spot.
Miller Howe was built in the middle of the First World War by wealthy
industrialist and ship builder Thomas Fredric Harrison.
Raised in Windermere, Thomas was seeking a Lakeland Summer retreat
and selected Miller Brow - a place described by Victorian journalist
and novelist Harrier Martineau as 'a view unsurpassed for beauty
in the whole Lake District'. The property remained in the Harrison
family until 1948.
In the 1980's Miller Howe was one of the most fashionable destinations
in the North of England. Former international newspaper editor Charles
Garside took over from Tovey in the mid 90's and continued to uphold
the hotel's reputation for unsurpassed luxury and exquisite dining.
Today the Miller Howe story continues in the hands of owners Martin
and Helen Ainscough who have restored many of Miller Howe's original
features and reintroduced various appropriate arts and crafts pieces
of furniture. Along with carefully selected modern works of art,
the result is a stunning combination of a classic hotel with a contemporary
twist.
And in 2010
the historic home has opened it's doors to
one of my Pilates and Massage retreats.
On this retreat, as with all the others, we start on Monday evening
with a welcome dinner, served in the Miller Howe Restaurant. The
Miller Howe Restaurant has excellent fresh, imaginative food prepared
with quality, locally sourced ingredients. Head Chef, Andy Beaton
has worked under Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons for
a number of years.
The setting for dinner has been designed to ensure you can enjoy
your meal whilst looking out over the magnificence of Lake Windermere
and the majestic Langdale Pikes beyond.
Bright and early Tuesday morning, we start our first of 4 x 2 hour
Pilates classes. Each class ends with 15 or 20 minutes of relaxation.
Whether you are a beginner or more advanced in Pilates you will
benefit from these workshop style classes and you will learn Pilates
in such a way, you will never forget. We start over with the basics
of Pilates and each class builds up and if necessary you can modify
or advance according to your needs.
At the end of the morning session, a large brunch will be served
in the dining room. If this doesn't keep you going, there will be
afternoon tea at 4pm prior to your second Pilates class at around
5pm. A half hour massage is included and can be taken from the minute
you arrive. If you have time, there will be an opportunity to book
additional massages.
Dinner will be served once more at 8pm in the Miller Howe Restaurant.
On Wednesday we do it all over again!
On Wednesday evening we will have a very special dinner with the
opportunity to explore some different wines with our wine tasting
host, Nigel. You should be made aware that Miller Howe has been
shortlisted fo AA wine list of the year, for the last 3 years.
The list is quite eclectic!
You can leave on Thursday after a leisurely breakfast or feel free
to stay on a day or so more to enjoy the Lake District and the surrounding
area. There is a very special rate, should you decide to do so.
